NEWPORT AND BISHOPSTON GAIN CLUBMARK AWARD

Newport Tennis Centre has become the first in South Wales to achieve the Lawn Tennis Association’s (LTA) Tennis Clubmark award.
Tennis Clubmark provides a framework to help clubs develop and to ensure that their programmes, policies and procedures are all in line with best practice, Bishopston Tennis Club has also gained the award, becoming the first club in South West Wales to gain Clubmark.

ABERGAVENNY COACH SHORTLISTED FOR AWARD

Abergavenny Tennis Club Chairman Mike Buck was amongst high--profile names such as Warren Gatland and Billy Pye in the finalists at the Sports Council for Wales Coach of the Year awards.
Tennis Wales Volunteer of the Year 2007, Mike was nominated by Cerri Dando of Tennis Wales for achievements including:
• Running Dragon Sports Clubs in Abergavenny and Monmouth
• Community outreach work in Monmouthshire
• The Abergavenny Tennis Club Adult Initiative
• The Abergavenny Communities First project

Young European tennis stars head for North Wales

More than 90 top young tennis players from all over Europe are heading to Wales for the Wrexham Open – part of the Tennis Europe Junior Tour, which has launched the careers of stars such as Roger Federer and Maria Sharapova.

The main draw for the 48 top players starts on Monday (December 15th) with the finals on Friday. Before, then qualifying takes place this weekend.
